P-38 TRILOGY dvd
A "must see" for aviation
enthusiasts, this trilogy brings to life the history of a spectacular warbird.
Crashed and abandoned on the Greenland ice cap during their original WWII
mission, six P-38 Lightnings and two B-17 bombers of The Lost Squadron awaited
discovery. Fifty years later, a 1992 expedition battled arctic extremes to
recover one of the P-38s, all of which were discovered under 260 feet of ice,
with hopes to restore and one day fly again.
Combined on this single disc, the episodes feature interviews with pilots who
flew the P-38, surviving members of The Lost Squadron with vintage photos taken
at the time of the crash, WWII film footage, restoration work on the aircraft
and the remarkable rebirth and first flight of "Glacier Girl," as the recovered
and restored plane was dubbed.
This incredible story pays homage to the last of the great prop driven fighters
of WWII and to the dedication and determination of the men who made the recovery
and restoration possible.
These famous words were issued to then Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox.
Thus began one of the most important American missions of WWII in the
Pacific.
Army Air Corps P-38 fighter pilots set out with the mission of finding and
killing Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the mastermind behind the
attacks on Pearl Harbor 1½ years earlier. He was, shall we say, a "highly
desirable" target.
This brand new DVD, "Attack on Yamamoto," coming out around the
anniversary of this April 18 battle, tells this harrowing story better
than any Tom Clancy novel.

THE
LOST SQUADRON
VHS
For 50 years, a squadron of six P-38s lay buried in the glacial ice of Greenland
- time capsules left behind from World War II.
Camped out in tents on the Greenland ice cap a team of explorers melted a
268-foot tunnel straight down to the plane, revealing a surprisingly intact
P-38. Then the plane was dismantled and hauled up to the surface. It took four
months to recover. Now recovered from its frozen tomb it was transported to a
new home in Middlesboro, Kentucky, where it was meticulously restored to its
former glory. In October of 2002, it flew again for the first time in 50+ years.
What an adventure! Be sure to buy a copy of this one! It's one of our most popular videos.

WHEN LIGHTNING STRUCK
- Saga of an American War Plane
VHS
From the producers of the award-winning documentary "The
Lost Squadron." This video tells the story of the brave flying aces who
flew and fought from the fast and fierce P-38 Lightning. Relive exciting
moments from history through interviews with some of the leading flying
aces of WWII, ground crew members and current P-38 owners.
Also featured are reports on the progress of the
restoration of Glacier Girl, the P-38 highlighted in "The Lost Squadron."
This is
a must-have CD for any fan of the P-38. Hundreds of
photos, many from private collections. Interviews
with 11 P-38 pilots are included on a separate 110-minute
DVD. Conversations with restoration experts (such as Bob
Cardin, Project Manger on the Glacier Girl project).
A complete P-38 Pilots Manual and history of the aircraft
also included. Incredible amount of material.
Top notch!

P-38 "FLIGHT CHARACTERISTICS" TRAINING FILM
This is a tremendously fun DVD to watch. With
complete video of how to handle the P-38, it is the original
training film used by Lockheed to familiarize new pilots with the
P-38 Lightning
-- including things such as how to properly bail out of the
plane (although they say the pilot's job is to make "the other guy" bail
out of his).
Production and chief engineering test pilots discuss and
demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of what they describe as a
"fighting man's airplane," including maximum performance, control, and
reliability. Lots of demonstrations. Terrific!
BONUS FILMS INCLUDED ON DVD
"Angel in Overalls" -- This film was developed to show US P-38
production line workers the Lightning at work in a wide variety of combat
roles. A must see for all P-38 fans!
"Yamamoto Shot Down!" -- See the P-38 Squadron that shot down Admiral Yamamoto
in an incredible, long-distance interception in the Pacific. Includes
purported P-38 gun camera footage of the Admiral's Betty going down in flames.
