A "must see" for aviation enthusiasts, this trilogy brings to life the history of a spectacular warbird. Crashed and abandoned on the Greenland ice cap during their original WWII mission, six P-38 Lightnings and two B-17 bombers of The Lost Squadron awaited discovery. Fifty years later, a 1992 expedition battled arctic extremes to recover one of the P-38s, all of which were discovered under 260 feet of ice, with hopes to restore and one day fly again.

Combined on this single trilogy disc, "The Lost Squadron" recounts the harrowing tale of how and why a squadron of P‑38s crash landed on Greenland in 1942; next, the Emmy-winning "When Lightning Struck: Saga of an American Warplane" features interviews with leading aces of World War II who tell of flying and fighting in the Lightning; and, finally, "The Flight of Glacier Girl" features the restoration work on the aircraft and the remarkable rebirth and first flight of "Glacier Girl," as the recovered and restored plane was dubbed.

This incredible story pays homage to the P‑38, the last of the great prop driven fighters of WWII and to the dedication and determination of the men who made the recovery and restoration possible.

"THE LOST SQUADRON"
VHS

$24.95

For 50 years, a squadron of six P-38s lay buried in the glacial ice of Greenland - time capsules left behind from World War II.

Camped out in tents on the Greenland ice cap a team of explorers melted a 268-foot tunnel straight down to the plane, revealing a surprisingly intact P-38. Then the plane was dismantled and hauled up to the surface. It took four months to recover. Now recovered from its frozen tomb it was transported to a new home in Middlesboro, Kentucky, where it was meticulously restored to its former glory. In October of 2002, it flew again for the first time in 50+ years.

What an adventure! Be sure to buy a copy of this one! It's one of our most popular videos.
