Nice photo taken by Frank Mormillo at Chino a year ago of a Mustang flown by John
Hinton and Glacier Girl flown by Steve Hinton. The TF‑51 is owned by Stephen
Grey who owns the Fighter Collection at Duxford, England. It is painted in my
colors and codes of WWII and I am the fortunate guy in the back seat enjoying
the ride. The day was June 16, 2007 the day prior to the departure on the ill
fated Bolero II attempt that ended at Goose Bay with Miss Velma going on to
Duxford.
This added bit of history from
Association member, Frank Birtciel:
My Squadron Commander (343rd
Squadron) in WWII was Dallas W. Webb who was the Officer in Charge of Tomcat
Green and Tomcat Yellow Flights on the original Bolero Operation that left
Glacier Girl deep in the ice at Greenland.
I feel very honored to have flown
both types of fighters in WWII and I started flying the P‑38 at age 19 at Willliams
Field Arizona. Quite a hot rod for a teenager!

Here's a nifty shot taken of a P-38
in the trailing smoke of another aircraft. Sent in to us
from David Allen Recchione, who took it at this year's Planes of Fame air show
in Chino, CA.

Here are some beautiful pictures of Bill Behrn's P‑38
brought back to life in the form of a 1:72 scale model of his airplane, the "San Joaquin Siren."
