READ THE STORY

P-38 Trilogy

A "must see" for aviation enthusiasts, this trilogy brings to life the history of a spectacular warbird, now known as "Glacier Girl."

During WWII an emergency landing left six P‑38 Lightnings and two B‑17 bombers stranded on a frigid Greenland icecap, just waiting to be brought home. They waited for 50 years and came to be called "The Lost Squadron." Then, in 1992 an expedition was launched to do just that. They battled arctic extremes to recover one of the P‑38s from under 268 feet of ice. The crew, lead by project manager Bob Cardin, had hopes of recovering, restoring and one day flying this frozen Lightning again.

This incredible story pays homage to the last of the great prop‑driven fighters of WWII and to the dedication and determination of the men who made the recovery and restoration possible.

A Tribute to the Lightning

This award‑winning tribute includes an exclusive interview with P‑38 test pilot, Tony LeVier, the man who we have named our Museum in Riverside, CA, after.  LeVier is the name most associated with the Lightning, other than its designer, Kelly Johnson.

It will certainly touch your heart, if you are a Lightning fan.

Attach on Yamamoto!

"Get Yamamoto" - Franklin D. Roosevelt

These famous words were issued to then Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox.  Thus began one of the most important American missions of WWII in the Pacific.

Army Air Corps P‑38 fighter pilots set out with the mission of finding and killing Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the mastermind behind the attacks on Pearl Harbor about 18 months earlier.  He was, shall we say, a "highly desirable" target.

"Attack on Yamamoto" was released around the anniversary of the battle, and tells this harrowing story better than any Tom Clancy novel!

The Lost Squadron

As we said above, for 50 years, a squadron of six P‑38s lay buried in the glacial ice of Greenland, as time capsules left behind from World War II.

Camped out in tents on the Greenland ice cap a team of explorers melted a 268-foot tunnel straight down to the plane, revealing a surprisingly intact P‑38. Then the plane was dismantled and hauled up to the surface. It took four months to recover. Now recovered from its frozen tomb it was transported to a new home in Middlesboro, Kentucky, where it was meticulously restored to its former glory. In October of 2002, it flew again for the first time in 50+ years.

What an adventure!
